Civil Defence Guidance in Cyprus: Finding Shelters, Staying Safe, and What to Pack (Including a First Aid Kit)

Simple Public Recommendations (Quick Checklist)

• Find your nearest shelter in advance using the SafeCY app or by calling the Civil Defence Operations Control Centre: +357 22 403 451 / +357 22 403 452.
• If there’s an emergency, sirens may sound in affected areas and public announcements will be broadcast (radio/TV and other channels) to guide people to shelters.
• If no shelter is nearby, stay indoors in a safer internal area (e.g., basement, underground parking, or a room with solid walls, away from windows/glass). Staying indoors is strongly recommended.
• If you’re outdoors and there’s no time to reach shelter, lie face down, preferably in a small ditch/depression, and cover your head with your hands.
• Follow official instructions at all times. Civil Defence remains in continuous operational readiness to support public safety.
• What to keep ready (Grab-and-Go essentials)
• ID / key documents
• Cash
